The cabins at Elephant Head Lodge
Located eleven miles from the east entrance to Yellowstone, this is a great location from which to explore the park and surrounding areas.  The lodge is on the Shoshone River in the Shoshone National Forest.  Teddy Roosevelt once called the drive from the east entrance to Cody "the most scenic 50 miles in America".  I agree.  The small cabin we stayed in was built in 1910 by Buffalo Bill Cody's neice.  While the cabins interior had been refurbished, the original exterior, including the 5'6" doorway, remained original.

Camp dog on "Griz Watch"
This photo was taken early morning just outside our cabin.  The yellow Lab, Muzzin,  is one of four dogs that patrol the area, sounding the alarm at any movement outside the perimeter of the lodge.  An important role, since the cabins are located in Grizzly Bear territory.
